As the Government has revealed its levelling up agenda and ambitions to ‘Build Back Better’, with construction playing a critical role, the sector is under pressure to optimise, innovate and upscale like never before.

For many construction companies, this could be a daunting prospect. However, we are already investing in technology to transform our project management processes.

Director of Construction, John Barrow explains: “Construction is complex, labour intensive and requires seamless collaboration between multiple teams and stakeholders to manage risk effectively.

“We have multiple projects on the go at any one time and keeping tabs on those projects at every stage, from pre-construction through to handover, needs a system more efficient than traditional paper and IT solutions.”

Keen to innovate its project management processes and offer development clients greater assurance around efficiency and delivery, we have invested in cloud-based construction management software, Procore.

John continues: “When you’re managing numerous sites, teams and projects you need a helicopter view of the entire development programme.”

“Running an efficient, project and delivering to time and budget is central to everything we do. We wanted to modernise our workflows and ensure that every detail from every project was available, immediately and fully mobile.”

We had already embraced technology and site managers have been using Microsoft Teams and video conferencing for the past 12 months. This meant that making the transition to a cloud-based, digital construction management solution was fairly smooth.

“Our teams have been fully digitally enabled for a while. The next step was to extend that connectivity to our construction processes. We’re now able to improve productivity, team management, project collaboration and better control risks and costs too. All factors which have obvious advantages not only for ourselves but more importantly, for our clients.”
