This month, we have completed a scheme of 76 homes in Walton on behalf of growth and regeneration Group Torus.
The future of the site, which involved the redevelopment of the former Notre Dame Catholic College, was plunged into uncertainty when two successive contractors went into administration part way through the build.
Fortunately, we were able to step in, mobilise quickly and ensure that the much-needed homes were delivered to time, spec and budget. Starting on site in July 2019, we have worked tirelessly to redevelop the site, overcoming amendments made to planning permission, picking up where previous contractors left off and most recently, site activity halting due to COVID-19.
Construction Director, John Barrow explains: “For us, Notre Dame has been a landmark project and the first we have taken over mid-build. This has been a challenge for the entire team as we had to work within confines dictated by another company.
“We have learnt a lot throughout the duration of this project and overcome more than most in getting it complete – but, we’ve done it – and, as I knew we would, we managed to turn the project round and complete Notre Dame on time and in budget.
“As a socially-focused organisation, we are committed to increasing access to truly affordable, high-quality housing across the North West and now, more than ever, it is vital that everyone has access modern homes where they can feel secure.”
We are currently at work developing nine sites across the North West, of which the Notre Dame site is the first to handover. Work on the homes resumed in earnest when lockdown measures were relaxed and we immediately appointed local supply chain partners, creating employment opportunities and bolstering economic recovery.
The development, which boasts views of the iconic Liverpool waterfront and the football stadia, has already become home to key workers and a family who needed to vacate their home and relocate quickly.
Continuing, John said: “Despite COVID-19 and the ensuing restrictions on construction activity, we worked closely with the client team and our partners to complete the new homes quickly and safely, following stringent social distancing measures and health and safety precautions.
“With Notre Dame being so close to completion ahead of lockdown, we were in a good position to help residents move in and have not been impacted by limited availability of stock in the supply chain. It’s great to see this scheme complete and I look forward to welcoming more residents to the site.”
