Adding to our New Build Portfolio with £13m Extra Care Scheme

Posted: 20 April 2021

Starting the year strong, Team HMS has completed works on a £13m independent living complex in Merseyside.

Back in August 2020, the future of the 130-home extra care scheme in St Helens looked uncertain when Cruden Construction, the original contractor went into administration leaving hundreds of elderly people with no firm idea of when, or if, their new homes would be completed.

HMS Construction Director, John Barrow, explains: “When we were approached by the developer, Torus, we tendered our services without hesitation.

“This was a prestigious project for HMS and our most complex to date with a bistro, hair salon and communal areas as well as 130 one- and two-bedroom apartments and landscaped gardens.

“But, as a company with strong local connections and an office in the borough, it was something we felt compelled to undertake so that members of our community were supported during what was an uncertain time, by a reliable team that could mobilise quickly to deliver the works and provide a quality finish.

“We were determined to do everything we could to get the development over the line and the residents into their new homes as quickly as possible.

“Our construction team, operational staff, sub-contractors and supply chain have done an amazing job. We couldn’t be more proud of their hard work and commitment.”

The Foundry Wharf scheme is the latest multi-million pound development in our rapidly expanding new build portfolio and marks a strong start to 2021.

John continues, “The construction industry faced many challenges last year but with a rising demand, a robust supply chain and firm pricing, we are forecasting a good year.”

The team is currently on site in 12 locations including Liverpool, Knowsley, Frodsham, Wirral and St Helens building more than 300 homes.

The facilities management and repairs and maintenance divisions of HMS have also been appointed to keep the extra care development running smoothly post construction.
