Leading commercial contractor, HMS, is proud to support Gas Safety Week 2020. This year, the annual campaign is celebrating 10 years of keeping the nation Gas Safe and HMS, and its award-winning team of gas engineers, are once again working to ensure the gas safety of its customers across its communities.
With vast experience providing day-to-day repairs, boiler and heating system replacements, emergency out of hours work and statutory annual gas safety checks, HMS has a 100% gas safety compliance safety rating and works tirelessly to increase awareness of the importance of gas safety amongst its customers.
Even throughout lockdown, HMS provided safe, socially distanced repairs and gas servicing appointments to ensure all of Torus’ 40,000 and Steve Biko’s 250 properties had a gas safe home to feel secure in throughout lockdown.
Enhancing its already stringent Health & Safety procedures to keep its customers safe – many who were classified as clinically vulnerable.
Despite the dangers presented by COVID-19, it was important that HMS’ customers remained compliant and gas safe as badly fitted and un-serviced or poorly serviced gas appliances can cause leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning, so HMS’ rigorously trained and fully accredited gas engineers continued to operate throughout lockdown, keeping people informed on how to keep themselves and their families safe:
If you are a social housing tenant, you will need to allow our gas engineers access to your home to check your appliances every year. If you have any concerns, you can book a HMS gas engineer visit by calling our Customer Call Centre on 0800 678 1894. They will also be able to answer any questions you may have about how we are operating in line with COVID-19 guidance to ensure your safety when in your home
You can check for warning signs that your appliances aren’t working correctly, such as lazy yellow / orange flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks on or around the appliance, a pilot light that keeps going out and too much condensation in the room
Never attempt to fix a gas appliance yourself and arrange for one of our gas safe engineers to carry out any repairs or maintenance
Know the six main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning; headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness
Have an audible carbon monoxide alarm which will alert you if there is carbon monoxide in your home. You can request a HMS gas engineer to fit one of these for you, simply contact us to arrange
Remember; no ID, no access. All HMS gas engineers carry ID, if in doubt contact our Customer Call Centre
