As a committed social entrepreneur, leading contractor and repairs and maintenance specialist, HMS, has a long history of investing financially and socially into the creation of employment and training opportunities for people across the North West, with over £14 million of its profits invested into meaningful projects – with £8.4 million Gift Aided to the Torus Foundation – since its inception in 2011.
This commitment to investing and nurturing new talent across the sector is central to what HMS does, so the organisation has joined the National Housing Federation’s Homes at the Heart campaign to promise to actively contribute to recovery of the sector and the nation, post-Coronavirus, through increasing access to paid apprenticeships and training opportunities locally.
Shining a light on how investing in social housing will boost the economy after lockdown through the stimulation of trade and creation of jobs, the Homes at Heart campaign is supported by Housing Associations and Registered Providers across the country, with HMS and the Torus Group, adding their names to the list.
Former apprentice turned Managing Director of HMS, Paul Worthington, explains: “I understand the importance of apprenticeships first-hand and know how pivotal they can be in supporting people into a career they love. The ability to learn while working is an amazing opportunity and one we are proud to offer”.
“As Managing Director, I am passionate about investing in construction’s next generation, and as a company I love to see how many people have benefitted from the paid apprenticeship and training opportunities we offer.
This passion is evident through HMS’ pledge to take on 12 paid trainees in September, as part of the ILM Access to Work Programme, as well as recommence its Apprentice Programme early in the new year.
Paul continued: “Since beginning in 2011, we have always worked closely with local schools and colleges to actively promote these opportunities and provide the placements people need to succeed. As one of the fastest growing contractors in the North West and an organisation which specialises in construction, repairs and maintenance and facilities management, we offer a myriad of opportunities for those interested and I for one, can’t wait to see people make the most of the training and apprenticeship posts we have coming up.
“Now, more than ever, we will be working with Torus Foundation and stakeholders across our communities’ to increase access to these apprenticeship opportunities and will be steadily be returning Apprentices to the workplace to enable them to complete their training and learning portfolio, as this investment in the future of our industry will help galvanise the country’s economic and social recovery following COVID-19.
