HMS keeps Torus gas safe

With around 40,000 homes across Merseyside, Cheshire and West Lancashire, efficient gas servicing is a priority for North West housing group Torus.

The housing giant trusts the safety of its 74,000 customers to the award-winning gas engineers of commercial contractor, HMS.

The Merseyside based contractor has a 100% gas safety compliance safety rating and is responsible for providing: day-to-day repairs, boiler and heating system replacements, emergency out of hours work and statutory annual gas safety checks.

Whilst there may be a temptation to cut costs when it comes to gas appliances and use a ‘friend of a friend’ to install it, badly fitted and un-serviced or poorly serviced gas appliances can cause leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide poisoning. So, cutting corners to save money can cost lives instead.

Each year thousands of people are diagnosed with carbon monoxide poisoning, often from leaky appliances and it can kill.

HMS gas engineers are fully accredited and rigorously trained, which means the gas appliances in the homes we look after are well fitted and serviced to the highest standard. HMS top tips for gas safety:

  • Never let anyone fit a gas appliance unless they are ACS accredited

  • Always have your gas appliances checked each year. This 20-minute inspection, saves lives

  • Look out for warning signs, lazy yellow or orange flames instead of crisp blue ones, could means an appliance isn’t working properly

  • Be aware of the six main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning: headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness
