Lyn had recently suffered a traumatic event which made the prospect of living through major home improvement works more arduous than normal.
So, when HMS stepped in to install a new kitchen in Lyn’s over 55s home, as part of its on-going property improvement contract with Steve Biko Housing Association, individual customer service was as important as excellent workmanship.
The old kitchen had been adapted to enable wheelchair access, which reduced the amount of usable space. This meant that storage was a big issue for a tenant who loves to spend her time in the kitchen.
Brand-new floor and wall units, work surfaces and electricals have now been installed as part of a design that emphasises easy access and worktop space - making everything now straightforward for Lyn’s needs.
“It’s like waking up on Christmas morning every day with my new kitchen,” Lyn beamed. “I’m so proud of it and can’t wait to start baking again!”
HMS is a people orientated contractor, which was crucial in this case to make Lyn feel as comfortable as possible in her home during works.
Lyn said, “I wasn’t sure whether I could deal with people being around because of the problem that I’d suffered recently. The HMS team was fantastic and took care of me when they were around. I can’t praise them enough - I miss them actually. There was a good bond between us and we had a laugh.”
Before works began, Lyn wondered if she could cope with the improvement works. She is now in no doubt: “I’m glad I went through with it after debating it for a while. But it was well worth it and HMS’ work was an excellent standard. I really am overjoyed.”
