HMS is pleased to be working with Torus Developments to transform the landmark Fire Station and Police Station in Allerton, Liverpool.
Continuing on from the successful refurbishment and renovation of the century old Ogden’s Clock Tower into 19 affordable rent apartments. The characterful 1930s fire and police station will provide further opportunities for us to highlight our skilled craftsmanship and attention to quality and detail.
Consultation will take place with local residents in the near future regarding the plans for both buildings and what will happen with the site. However, HMS have recently completed a soft strip inside the heritage buildings to help enable detailed design works to take place.
Since its closure in 2012, the fire station has remained unoccupied and was acquired for development in August 2018. The landmark site is referenced in The Beatles song ‘Penny Lane’ and in keeping with HMS’s commitment to retaining original features, the crest above the building and various fixtures and fittings where possible will be restored.
The police station has a distinctive character with the soft strip revealing a parquet floor and an original marble tiled cell. Currently, HMS are working with partners to finalise designs for the site and will continue to keep customers and local residents informed about the scheme as it progresses.
Councillor Alice Bennett, Mayoral Lead for Heritage and Design, recently visited the site and commented: "The desire to maintain the heritage aspects of the two sites is in keeping with HMS’s commitment to quality buildings and homes and their surrounding environment. I am really excited about this development and look forward to its future in the community.”
Paul Worthington, Managing Director at HMS said: “This is another exciting development for us, following the recent transformation of Ogden’s Clock Tower, an iconic Grade II listed landmark. HMS is accustomed to facing the challenges a heritage site presents and we will work to deliver a quality project protecting original features and ensuring high specification homes for the future.”
